About Us

Who We Are

True Thabo was founded by Jaclyn Campson and Marissa Frank : two college students at the University of Scranton. After listening to Marissa’s service trips to Ghana (2014) and Zambia (2016), we noticed there was a common thread- a lack of access to clean water. We realized there was more we could do for the children in Africa. It was then that we started True Thabo, with the sole mission of eliminating the risk of students getting sick from the water that they drink while attending school. No one should have to worry about getting sick from their water source and that is why we want to make clean water a right, not a privilege.

In May 2017, Jaclyn and Marissa traveled to Livingstone, Zambia to see the impact that True Thabo has had. In Zambia, we visited our partner schools and checked up on the use of the systems, the students and the educational component. We also gave presentations to local schools about the importance of drinking clean water, proper water hygiene and the various ways that the students can obtain clean water. We are currently working to partner with the new schools that we visited over our trip to provide them with a water purification system too!

True Thabo is a 501c3 organization and all donations are 100% tax deductible.

What we do

When you make a purchase from True Thabo, you are making the socially responsible choice to help resolve the global water crisis. 100% of our net proceeds from sales go to providing water purification systems to our partner schools in Africa. Our aim for True Thabo is to do our part in helping give back and raise awareness about this issue. Our partner schools will be provided with the LifeStraw Community system and MadiDrops to ensure that their water is free of bacteria and disease. We also provide our partner schools with a curriculum on the water crisis and water borne illness prevention so that we can educate the students on the importance of drinking clean water.

The LifeStraw Community is a water purifier that prevents water borne illnesses such as cholera, typhoid, worms, diarrhea and cryptosporildiosis. The system filters up to 100,000 liters of water and can last for several years.
The MadiDrops are a low cost water purification tablets that destroys waterborne pathogens by releasing silver ions to make the water clean, without chemically altering the taste or smell.
